In gratitude…

Today is a day that many Americans dedicate to “All American” activities: Grilling, drinking, driving, laughing, swimming, tanning, marching, diving, playing, running, eating, hiking…enjoying. We Americans live the most privileged of lives.

And do so with the understanding that somewhere, in the world, men and women stand guard in places known and unknown. And families wait and watch for their return.

And mourn those who don’t with a depth that is incomprehensible.

I write this post in contemplation and gratitude. To those men and women who choose to  stand guard for me and my sons, to the families who watch them go and wait for their return, for those who support them in various and needed ways, I say Thank You. Words cannot express my gratitude, but Thank You is the least that I can say.

Thank you.
